At Granby, we aim to provide a PE curriculum that pupils enjoy and one that allows them to experience a broad range of activities to help them develop their health, fitness and wellbeing.
We want to give children as many opportunities as possible to participate in a range of sports and activities through weekly lessons, after school clubs, competitive events and festivals.
We aim to foster a love of physical activity and sport in our pupils and encourage the development of sporting values, such as fairness and respect.
Children are taught regularly by both teaching staff and sports instructors from Year 3 to Year 6. The curriculum is further enhanced by participation in numerous sporting competitions and events with other schools in the area, through our link with the ESSP, and after school clubs. Our play leader, Miss Chambers, supervises a variety of sports activities at lunchtime.
We plan our curriculum to encompass the aims and programmes of study in the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2 and to be progressive so that our pupils develop their skills, knoweldge and understanding throughout their time at Granby. Please see our subpages below for overviews for each year group.
We equip our children with the necessary skills and a love for sport. It is our hope that they will continue in their lives after Granby to live happy and healthy lives, utilising the skills and knowledge acquired through PE.
Please visit our PE Twitter page for the latest updates, reminders and photos of what we've been up to in school sport and PE at Granby!

Thank you for the 61 responses to our Parent Voice Survey which asked for your thoughts and opinions on the PE provision here at Granby.
Here are several key points which were highlighted from your responses and how we have addressed or how we plan to address them:
Q3) The majority of responses indicated that adults at home did not think they had access to enough information about our PE provision and found it hard to know what our pupils do on a weekly basis in their PE lessons. Please now find a copy of our school timetable, which shows the two lessons per week each year group has access to, on our newly re-located PE noticeboard just inside the front doors to reception!
Q4) It was lovely to see that the wesbite is used by a large percentage of parents to access information about sports and PE. However, this result highlighted that parents were not using the PE noticeboard, which was due to the fact that it was displayed within our school’s main corridor and was therefore not visible to parents visiting reception. The display board has now been moved to directly inside the school’s main doors. Please have a look next time you visit to find lots of information and photos showing what we have been up to so far this year!
Q5) It has been highlighted that many of our parents would like us to expand the range of after-school clubs offered. The top three requested clubs were:
We will be holding discussions with Central Soccer and staff to investigate whether it is possible to offer any of these clubs in the coming weeks.
JUNE 2018 UPDATE: Miss Robinson will be offering a Dodgeball Club in Aut 1 of the next academic year for Y4/5/6, before picking the girl's netball team back up in Spring 2 when the weather should be fine again :) Please keep an eye out for letters during the first week back in September if your child is interested in this!

Here are the key points which were highlighted from our pupil surveys given this year to complete in class. Overall, the survey found that the vast majority of pupils feel confident and safe during their PE lessons at Granby, favourite lessons included rounders, dodgeball and swimming, and almost three-quarters of our pupils would like to see Dan the Skipping Man in school again next year!
Miss Robinson has selected several key aspects of the survey to focus on addressing, please see how we plan to address them in the coming academic year (2018-19) below:
Q7 (and 8) The vast majority of our pupils have not attended, or no longer attend, the after school clubs currently on offer. The top reasons given when asked on Q8 were:
On other parts of the survey, dodgeball has continued to be a top interest of our pupils and so, in response to this, Miss Robinson will be offering a Dodgeball Club in Aut 1 of the next academic year, for Y4/5/6, before picking the girl's netball team back up in Spring 2 when the weather should be fine again :) Please keep an eye out for letters during the first week back in September if you're interested in this!
Q11) Our whole-school Ultimate Dodgeball day will go ahead again this year towards the end of the final term. Y3/4 will compete against each other on one day, with Y5/6 competing on a seperate one. Class winners will earn a reward! It has been lovely to see that the enthusiasm for this has not dwindled!
Other imaginative ideas that were put forward by our pupils will be considered throughout the next academic year.
During this academic year (2016/17) we planned to use our funding to:
See attached document for specific costings and expected impact.
We also once again received the Sainsbury's School Games Silver Award following our Bronze Award last year. This has been due to a further increase in pupil numbers competing and participating in school sports!
We received £9283 for the Sports premium last year.
This has been used to:
See attached document for specific costings and impact.
This year we have been awarded the Sainsbury's School Games Bronze Award, having previously received a Silver Award. This was based on the number of hours teaching PE, school sports opportunities, number of young leaders supporting activities in school and number of competitions within school and against other schools. We believe this decrease in award level is due to a dip in participation in competition entry. As a result of this the school's main focus for this year will be to increase participation and competition entry (see our sports pages for competitions entered this year). We will use this information as a benchmark for the following year. This was based on the number of hours teaching PE, school sports opportunities, number of young leaders supporting activities in school and number of competitions within school and against other schools.
We are also delighted that in September 2015 we received a Sport England grant for £28,900 to enable us to purchase a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) and Climbing Wall. This has greatly enhanced our school playground and is proving very popular for football, basketball, cricket and volleyball sessions. The funding also enabled us to have coloured playground surfaces too. We are very grateful to Sport England for their funding!
The Sainsbury’s School Games is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport. Here at Granby, we strive to achieve the aims of the School Games.
The Games are made up of different levels of activity including competition in schools and between schools:
The Sainsbury’s School Games is based around 6 key values. We encourage our children to follow these values, not only in sport, but in everything they do.
The Spirit of the Games Values focus on personal excellence through competition. There are six values:
Honesty
With others and with yourself. Have the courage to do the right thing. Be truthful and promote fairness in every situation.
Teamwork
Treat everyone equally, support each other’s and work together to have fun and achieve. Celebrate each others’ success. Be a good friend and a positive team player in school, sport and life.
Respect
Treating others politely and with understanding. Accepting life’s ‘ups and downs’ with grace. Respect everyday, in everything you do and for everyone around you
Self belief
You’ve got to believe to achieve. Have the self belief and confidence to succeed and reach your personal best.
Passion
Giving it 100%, putting your heart and soul into whatever you are doing and never giving up. Care about what you do and the people around you, and approach each opportunity with enthusiasm and positivity.
Determination
Keep going no matter what. Determination is about the journey you go on to push yourself and achieve your dreams. Have the mental strength and the self discipline to overcome obstacles, commit to your goals and keep working every day to become the very best you can be. Don’t hold back!
